Sand Tray Therapy at a Glance

Sand is the ultimate form of expression- we are at the beach and we are immediately drawn to the sand beneath our toes- we draw in it, dig holes, build castles and more but why are we so drawn to it?

Sand tray therapy utilizes our natural desire to build and create in sand in an expressive, open-ended medium that encourages letting go and moving forward. When I was first introduced to sand tray therapy I was skeptical of its effects. What I quickly discovered is how naturally we are drawn to those very things that offer the most dramatic change in our lives.

If you are interested in an expressive form of recovery, sand tray therapy might be great for you! It is an opportunity to express without words, using metaphors, visuals and miniatures to process the events in our lives. Just think- this could be you! In only 45 minutes recovery begins.

Play Therapy at a Glance

Play is integral in our youth. Play is an opportunity for a child to let go of stress and expectations. Yet, we so often forget and organize or structure their play. Play is the key to overcoming anxiety, bullying, divorce, changing schools, sibling rivalry, trauma or anything that causes distress.

As a Registered Play Therapist I am specifically trained on play techniques to assist your child grow. If you've ever looked at your child marveling at the world around them and wondered how to connect or help them, then play therapy could be right for you.

The Association for Play Therapy defines play therapy as a "way of being with the child that honors their unique developmental level and looks for ways of helping in the 'language' of the child...to better express themselves and resolve their problems." To learn more, please visit their website at http://www.a4pt.org/ under Why Play Therapy?

In session, we do not 'just play.' I provide opportunities for your child to grow and create, while I assess their needs. With this information, I support your family through parenting adaptations and recommendations; as well as teaching your child new skills. These skills can include: reducing anger, controlling impulsiveness, improving social skills, learning coping skills and so much more.
